A narrow barrier island, heavy salt, and sand that finds every filter. We handle it.
📞 Call Now — (321) 450-3400Melbourne Beach sits on one of the narrowest stretches of barrier island in Brevard County — in places only a few hundred yards separate the Atlantic from the Indian River. There is nowhere here that qualifies as sheltered, and pools take salt exposure from both sides.
Sand infiltration is more pronounced here than almost anywhere else we serve. The dune line is close, vegetation is low, and onshore wind moves fine sand continuously. It settles past the skimmer, packs the filter, and abrades pump seals. We monitor filter pressure rather than backwashing on a fixed schedule, because the loading rate varies enormously with the weather.
Much of the housing is older beach construction on generous lots, often with pools installed decades ago and updated in stages. Sea turtle nesting season also brings lighting restrictions along the beachfront, which occasionally affects how and when pool and deck lighting can be run — worth knowing if you are new to the area.
Continuous sand infiltration — The dune line is close and vegetation is low, so onshore wind moves fine sand into pools constantly. We track filter pressure rather than backwashing on a calendar, because loading varies hugely with conditions.
Salt from both shorelines — On the narrowest sections the ocean and the Indian River are a few hundred yards apart. Chemical demand and equipment wear both run high, and there is no sheltered side of the island to build a route around.
Older pools, staged upgrades — Many pools here were built decades ago and modernised piece by piece. Knowing exactly what combination of old and new equipment is installed prevents a small fault becoming an expensive misdiagnosis.
